Richelle M. Barb, PsyD
Dr. Barb holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from George Mason University in Virginia, a master’s degree in Organizational Behavior and a doctorate in Forensic Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology. Following her doctorate completion in 2005, she began her career with the California state hospital system, specializing in sex offender treatment. She then transferred to the state prison system where she spent several years providing individual and group treatment in both secure housing, special needs, and general population settings. She also had hospital admitting privileges at the prison hospital where inmates with severe mental illness were housed when in acute crisis. Eventually, Dr. Barb began to supervise mental health clinicians, while she focused on coordinating several programs within the prison, including the suicide prevention and response team, the developmental disability program, and coordinating transfers between the inpatient prison hospital and the state hospital. Throughout her years in the prison, she also actively participated as the mental health consultant on the negotiation team for the prison. In 2014, Dr. Barb began a new state position as a forensic evaluator and expert witness completing pre-parole evaluations on inmates with a history of mental health treatment and violent offenses. In addition to her full-time state job, she also spent many years supervising doctorate students working in a community mental health clinic (court-mandated Batterers' Intervention Program and various assessments) and teaching continuing education to other professionals. While a fulfilling California career, in March 2019, Dr. Barb decided to return to her home state of New Hampshire. She works full-time at the Office of the Forensic Examiner, where she conducts competency to stand trial and criminal responsibility evaluations and testifies as an expert witness throughout the criminal courts in New Hampshire.
